German Short Rows

The GERMAN SHORT ROWS technique is my favorite technique for shaping the neckline. It's simple and straightforward. It creates clean, nearly invisible short rows. The short rows are suitable for all types of knitting: shoulders, socks, scarves, and more.

1. Turn in knit rows (RS)

Knit up the stitch after which you want to turn.

Turn work to WS facing.

Slip 1 stitch purlwise with yarn in front to the right hand needle. Pull the working yarn behind the right needle until both legs of the stitch are on the needle. This creates a double stitch (ds).

Purl next stitch and following stitches as usual, keeping the tensionon the slipped stitch.

2. Turn in purled rows (WS)

Purl up the stitch after which you want to turn.

Turn work to RS facing.

Slip 1 stitch knitwise with yarn in back to the right hand needle. Pull the working yarn behind the right needle until both legs of the stitch are on the needle. This creates a double stitch (ds).

Knit next stitch and following stitches as usual, keeping the tensionon the slipped stitch.
